1. Introduction
VD Holdings (Pty) Ltd ("VD Holdings", "we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) of South Africa.
2. Information We Collect
This website uses no advertising or cross-site tracking, and its fonts are served from this site rather than a third party. If you accept analytics, it records which pages you view, the website or campaign that referred you, and general technical details such as browser type, device type and country, using two first-party cookies (see section 7). If you reject analytics, none of this is recorded. Our hosting provider processes technical request data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver the pages and keep them secure; we do not use it to identify visitors.
If you write to us, we receive what you choose to send, which may include:
- Contact information (name, email address, phone number)
- Company or organisation name
- Enquiry subject matter and message content
- If you accepted analytics: how you found the site (the first page you visited, the referring website and any campaign tags in the link), sent only with a contact form you submit
- With a contact form submission: your browser type and a one-way coded form of your IP address, used only to stop abuse. We never store the IP address itself.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to:
- Respond to your enquiries and communications
- Understand, in aggregate, which pages are useful (only if you accept analytics)
- Evaluate partnership and investment opportunities
- Comply with legal and regulatory obligations
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal information on the following lawful grounds: consent (where provided), contractual necessity, legitimate interests (evaluating business enquiries), and legal obligation.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by applicable law. Contact enquiries are retained for a maximum of 36 months unless an ongoing relationship exists.
6. Your Rights (POPIA)
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- Request access to your personal information
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal retention obligations)
- Object to the processing of your personal information
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa
7. Cookies and Browser Storage
Analytics cookies are off until you choose Accept analytics. If you choose Reject analytics, the analytics service is not loaded and no analytics cookies are set. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with Cookie preferences at the bottom of every page; withdrawing deletes the analytics cookies from your browser. Your choice applies to this website only. The site does not remember your colour theme.
This is everything the site can store in your browser:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Set | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
vdh-analytics | Local storage | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics. | When you make that choice | Until you change it or clear site data |
cwr_s | Cookie (first-party) | A random session ID, so the pages you view in one visit are grouped together. | Only if you accept analytics | 30 minutes after your last page view |
cwr_u | Cookie (first-party) | A random visitor ID, so returning visits can be counted. | Only if you accept analytics | 30 days |
vdh-attribution | Session storage | How you arrived (first page, referring website, campaign tags), sent only with a contact form you submit. | Only if you accept analytics | Until you close the tab |
Clearing your browser's site data for this website removes all of it.
8. Third-Party Services
The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services, which delivers the pages on our behalf. If you accept analytics, page-view data is processed by Amazon CloudWatch in our own Amazon Web Services account and stored in Cape Town, South Africa. We do not use it for advertising or share it with advertisers. We use no advertising services.
Messages sent through the contact form are stored on Amazon Web Services in Cape Town, South Africa, and a copy is emailed to our mailbox, which is hosted by Google and may be processed outside South Africa. Both are deleted after 36 months.
9. Contact
For privacy enquiries or to exercise your rights, write to our Information Officer through the contact form and choose “Something else”.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy periodically. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
